The World Health Organization identifies mental illness as the most disabling health condition in the world above cancer and heart disease. Data reported by the National Alliance on Mental Illness indicates that one in four adults (approximately 61.5 million Americans) experiences mental illness in any given year and approximately 20 percent of youth ages 13 to 18 experience severe mental disorders in a given year.
